| As anyone who has ever paid a bill will know, there are many
different payment options for gas and electricity. What some of
you may not realise is that the amount your fuel costs will generally
vary, depending on how you are paying.
For instance, paying for your energy on a monthly basis, rather
than on a quarterly or annual basis, is often cheaper, particularly
if you pay by direct debit.
On the other hand, paying by prepayment meter is usually the most
expensive way to pay for your energy. If you are in this situation,
you should consider asking your supplier to remove the prepayment
meter and replace it with a standard credit meter which is cheaper.
This will also enable you to pay by direct debit if you have a bank
account, saving you money. Please be aware that your supplier may
request that you pay a security deposit in order to change your
meter.
If you are having trouble paying your fuel bill, your supplier is
obliged to help you in a number of ways. Visit www.energywatch.org.uk
for more information or contact your supplier.
