| Next time you go shopping to buy a kitchen appliance,
look out for the Energy Efficiency Recommended logo. This indicates
that a particular fridge, washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher
is energy efficient, using up to a third less electricity than
more inefficient types. |

EU Energy Label:
Appliance Energy Efficiency
|
This logo complements the EU Energy Label which
rates appliances from A (very efficient) to G (not very efficient
at all). These labels also show information such as water consumption,
spin performance and noise levels so check them out before you
make a purchase. |
The Kent Action to Save Heat scheme has discounts on a range of

Once you've got your new appliance home, there are a few tips you
could follow to make sure you are being as energy efficient as possible:
- Always wait until you have a full load before using your washing
machine, or use the half load or economy setting on your machine
- Switch to a cooler wash temperature - using 40°c for all
clothes can use a third less electricity per wash. Temperatures
don't need to be higher than this because of the effectiveness
of modern washing powders
- Install the fridge or freezer away from hot appliances and direct
sunlight
- Do not put hot food in the fridge or freezer
- Defrost the freezer regularly
- Wait until your dishwasher is full before running it - most
models have a rinse and hold model so the plates do not need to
be festering for days before they are washed

all UK households turned off their TVs at night instead
of leaving them on standby, we would save enough carbon
dioxide to fill the millenium dome 38 times each year!
