Funding and support

 

You can get your hands on money to help you obtain different renewables technology. A sample of the funding currently available is provided here, including grants and equity sources, as well as links to application forms. Call the Kent Energy Centre on 0800 358 6669 for more information.

Grants

This DTI grants programme offers grants on most renewable energy technologies. Householders can receive up to £5,000 depending on the technology. Community groups (including Housing Associations and Local Authorities) can get 50% of the installed costs.

  • Community Renewables Initiative

If you are a community group or represent a community organisation, there may be funding and support available from your local support team. If you are in Kent your Local Support Team covers Surrey, Kent & the London Borough of Croydon. Call them on 020 8541 9436 for an information pack. If you are not covered by this team but are still interested, check here to find the number of the team nearest you.

  • Community Energy

The Community Energy Programme offers funding, information and support to Local Authorities, Registered Social Landlords, Universities, Hospitals and other public service organisations for the refurbishment of existing and installation of new community heating schemes.

  • Energy Crops

DEFRA have £29m for establishment of energy crops. If you have at least 3 hectares of land you can apply for a grant. Click here for details.

  • Utility Companies' Green Funds

Many electricity companies have green tariffs where customers can choose to pay a bit more for their electricity. This money goes into a green fund for new renewable projects. Individual households will not normally be eligible for the Fund.

Equity

The Wind Fund is an equity fund investing in small scale renewable energy projects. It is an initiative of Triodos Bank, which also provides its management. You can contact them on 0800 056 2761.

WindWorks is a National Wind Power scheme offering free site assessment and free guidance and support during your application. Interested parties would need an area that is windy and open, at least 600 metres away from buildings and woodland and owned by someone motivated and interested in an income from the wind.
