Use this checklist to see if your home would be suitable for solar
water heating. Alternatively, call our helpline on 0800 358 6669
to chat through the options.
- Do you have at least two to four square metres of unshaded,
south-east to south-west facing roof space?
- Is your home three stories or less high? Higher houses have
additional costs for installation.
- Is your roof south facing? Variations in south facing aspect
will work but may be less efficient.
- Is your south facing roof on the front or the back of the house?
If it's on the front, or if you have a flat roof, you're more
likely to need planning permission. In all cases, we recommend
you check with your local authority, and if your home is a listed
building or in a conservation area then getting permission may
be more difficult.
- Do you have a combination boiler? If you do, would you be willing
to have a hot water tank installed? Installation should still
be possible, but there may be extra cost.
- Do you have enough room for the new hot water tank? When solar
panels are installed, we may need to replace your current hot
water tank with a twin coil tank, which could be larger than your
current one.
