The UK Government is playing its part in your home’s
energy efficiency in numerous ways.
Home Energy Conservation Act
The Home Energy Conservation Act, 1995, means Local Authorities
encourage you to save energy at home.
Energy Efficiency Commitment
The Energy Efficiency Commitment means gas and electricity suppliers
have to spend millions on energy efficiency in their customers’
homes. It also helps those who are Fuel Poor by focusing on lower
income energy consumers.
Trusts
The Carbon Trust works with businesses and the public sector. The
Energy Saving Trust (EST) focuses on households, small firms and
the road transport sector. The aim is to improve efficient use of
all forms of energy in the home, which not only helps the environment,
but also saves you money. You have probably seen the adverts on
TV: ‘Is your home behaving badly?
Through the EST, the Government runs about 50 Energy Efficiency
Advice Centres (EEACs) and provides grants for home energy efficiency
measures.
The Government has also cut VAT to 5% on some energy efficiency
