The Kent renewable energy villages projects exists to encourage and help householders in Kent to generate their own energy and to make their homes more energy efficient. Householders in villages often pay more for fuel
because they are further from mains gas. We want to help people
waste less energy, and generate their own! Through this project we hope to help householders become more environmentally friendly and make Kent a greener place.
Latest News - July 2007
Low Carbon Communities Funding for the Kent Renewable Energy Villages project will soon run out. However we have recently secured funding to develop a small number of Low Carbon Communities in Kent. Low Carbon Communities will be villages or neighbourhoods where residents have a particular interest in becoming environmentally friendly. We will encourage these householders, community groups and local businesses to work together to reduce carbon emissions and become flagship low carbon communities. An example of a similar initiative can be found in Ashton Hayes, a village in Cheshire which aims to become carbon neutral. Click here for more information.
The four initial Low Carbon Communities will be:
Elham
Hadlow
St Margarets at Cliffe
Eastchurch
Launch Dates
Elham
Low Carbon Community Elham will launch on 20th November 2007. This meeting will be held at Elham School and all residents are encouraged to attend. The meeting is also open to others from surrounding areas who would like to find out more about Low Carbon Communities.
Future Initiatives We will be seeking funding to develop more Low Carbon Communities in Kent. If you would like your village or neighbourhood to be involved and believe that significant interest exists please contact us to register interest. You can either e mail jenny@cen.org.uk or ring the Kent Energy Centre on 0800 358 6669 and ask to speak to Jenny.
Renewable Energy Videos We have recently recorded two videos aimed at householders who are interested in installing renewable energy. Pete Robinson a member of our specialist renewables team recorded the video at Shorne Wood Country Park near Gravesend in Kent. The park has a dedicated visitor centre constructed on envirnomentally friendly priniciples. The centre has its own solar panels generating both electricity and hot water, as well as a 15kW wind turbine and a biomass boiler which provides heating.

Grants for Renewables
Low Carbon Building Programme funding for renewable energy is available on a first come first served basis after having been relaunched in May 2007. Once funding runs out there are no plans to replace it so if you are considering an installation now is the time to act. The grants available are largely unchanged although the maximum grant for any one installation or household is now £2500. See the grants page for more details
We can provide advice, information and referral to an installer for all of the following:
We also hold events in all of our village areas and have also organised renewables open events where you can see the particular technology which interests you in action and speak to the owner about their experiences. Click here to find out more about what's on or join
the mailing list today, and we will keep you up to date about
what's happening.
