About the project
The Kent Renewable Energy Villages
project is designed to promote home energy saving and renewable
solutions
to residents
of the areas
of Kent where residents are most likely to be off the main gas
network.
Households without access to gas will generally
be spending much more for their fuel than
for the typical gas-heated household.
We have selected the areas of Kent
with the highest proportions of residents off gas, and our aim
is to assist residents in these areas with access to information
and expert advice about both conventional energy-saving
measures,
and the newer technologies,
such as building integrated wind power, which have just recently
become certificated and viable, and which are increasingly practical
in the current climate of increasing fuel prices, and increasingly
attractive buy-back arrangements for home-produced renewable
energy.
The
project is being run with support from the Energy
Saving Trust, and from the 5 Local Authorities of the target
area. The project is a based on the Oxford Solar Initiative, which
was started in 2004 and which has focussed on the northern area
of Oxford.
